Tour aims to give young people ‘passionate encounter’ with Christ

BRAINTREE -- Beginning the first week of Advent, the Office for the New Evangelization of Youth and Young Adults (ONE) of the Archdiocese of Boston, in partnership with Lift Ministries, will be hosting the God of this City Tour.

The five-day event, geared toward youth and young adults, spans all five regions of the archdiocese and will include adoration, confession, speakers, praise and worship.

It will conclude at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross with Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley. All events begin at 7 p.m.

According to the tour’s website, www.Godofthiscitytour.com, “Our dream for this tour is to invite God’s people into a passionate encounter with Jesus Christ, the Word of God, the Bread of Life, by rallying our parishes to come out in support of our young people.”

“This presents a wonderful opportunity to rally our parishes in support of our young people, to a night of encounter with the Living Lord,” said Father Matt Williams, the director of the Office for the New Evangelization. “It is our prayer that this tour will be an instrument of the Lord’s grace to breathe forth renewed hope and love in Him, and in our call to mentor young people in the faith.”

Father Williams will begin the tour on Nov. 30 at St. Joseph Parish in Wakefield.

The tour will continue on Dec. 1 at St. Paul Parish in Wellesley with Bob Gill, the campus minister and moral theology teacher at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, as the speaker.

On Dec. 2, Sr. Olga Yaqob, who was born and raised in Iraq and is now a volunteer chaplain at Boston University, will speak at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Bridgewater.

The following day, Father John Capuci, pastor of St. Malachy Parish in Burlington who has been involved with youth ministry, marriage preparation, parish ministry, and Catholic high school chaplaincy since his ordination in 1990, will speak at St. Augustine Parish in Andover.

Cardinal O’Malley concludes the tour at the cathedral on Dec. 4.
